When you feel stressed out about the big, crowded city (and it’s 39 degrees in July), you may travel to this amazing village and visit Bois de la Solitude (The forest of Solitude) and the castle by the same name.
The area was used by a religious order from 1613. In 1881 the place was bought by Jean-Baptiste Toulet who built a garden and two chateaus. The building that still stands today was built after Marie-Philiberte Marquis bought the property in 1898. IF I REMEMBER RIGHT, she was related to a man with a chocolate factory which gave the chateau its nickname Château du Chocolat. The chateau is middle-class neo-Gothic style, and it was built 1903.
The current chateau was only used for about 60 years then abandoned in 1976.
I got most of my facts from here: https://random-times.com/2022/04/14/the-short-and-rich-life-of-the-abandoned-chateau-de-la-solitude-of-plessis-robinson/
The chateau is surrounded by a fence approx. 3 meters high that is very hard to climb. So don’t do that. Bring your drone if you want a better view. :)
The forest is very calm and a nice place for a picknick and the village next to it is very clean, calm and peaceful.
