A large complex. You can easily stay a couple of hours here. We were just passing through, so didn't have too much time but i expect if you really want to see it all, it would take some time.
It's a really old and beautifull complex. Almost like a park with old and overrun (by nature) buildings. The only problem here is, that its too crowded with people. Not only Urban explorers or normal tourists, but also youth, strikers and squaters.
Still, a beautifull location with many buildings to visit. If you have a rich imagination of how things used to be, this is a true treasure.

Visited this place on my first urbex journey. I had a lot of fun exploring the buildings. It's a bigg place and there is a lot to see, but every room looks a bit the same tho. There were a lot of people: other urbexers but also a lot of youngsters just hanging out, playing music, smoking weed,... We tried avoiding them and they didn't bother us. I think it's the perfect location for urbex rookies because it is so easy to find, easy accessible and there are a lot of nice places in/nearby Liège.

When we arrived at the fort, the access was very easy. The doors were open and you could just walk in like that. There were some people walking there but they didn't mind that we were going everywhere. There is some streetart, some more beutifull than others. When we were there it rained alot so there was a lot of water inside the building. The roof was full of dirt of people. You saw traced of homeless people living there also.

This is one of those locations thats completely public. And there was no way of feeling secluded or abandoned. This place is truly a hotspot for local teens, people to walk their dogs and street artists to vandalise with graffiti.
It was completely covered with graffiti whilst nature was also trying to take over the buildings. With trees growing in the attic where the roof was missing and even trees growing up the walls. Not to mention all the vines that grew around there.
We encountered many and MANY and MANY people. No 5 mins went by without encountering another group. Generally all quite respectful to their surroundings but sadly also some graffiti artists.
It's still quite an interesting site to visit. Mostly due to the whole atmosphere, as soon as we entered the terrain I felt it in my gut. The history of this place is insane.
Quite an interesting place, absolutely huge. I only recommend visiting if you're in the area.

During a small tour in Belgium,
A friend and myself decided to visit this fort. At first, we thought that it would be a very small place in bad state but we got surprised when we arrived there.
The location of the spot is in a park so anybody can enter. There is no security and it feels quite safe to walk around. The spot has 4 big buildings with small areas on the side.
It is quite an old spot and a lot of people came before us. As a result, nothing is left from the past except the walls and some hidden paperworks in some corners.
During a sunny day, the visit was quite delightful. The sun brought a nice light to make some good pictures. We met two other groups of explorers.
After around 2hours of exploration, and we still didn't see all the buildings, we decided to move on to another secret exploration.
PS: A fun fact is that we disturbed lovebirds chilling there.

Wow, one of the most pretty locations we’ve visited so far. A huge military domain that’s still in very good condition. One thing that really shocked us... The deeper we went in the woods surrounding the domain, we suddenly saw slums. Pretty shocked that these people are living in the woods, when there’s a whole domain near them where they could sleep in better conditions.

One of the few “legal” urbex locations, so nice to go with the family: p Still a nice location for portrait photography by the way. The roof of a large part of the fort has since collapsed. Still special that so many people are walking in and out, even if it is just to walk the dog for a while.

We saw a lot of pictures of other photographers. If you're into grafitti, this is it for you..
I didn't liked it that much. Nothing to see that shows a lot of the story behind this building. When you read about this place, you can only guess the use of the building.
After 2 hours we left.

12 oktober 2019,

fort de la chartreuse is more than 1 building. you have so much time to spend there. you could take nice pictures, from the rooftops over de trees.
de access is very easy and you could park in front of the location.
