Visit date   October 2 2021 at 14 hr
Visit duration   2 hours

I wanted to take another look here. The place has deteriorated, no idea whether it is vandalsim or nature. But very sad to see. To our horror we also came across a snake. We had the idea as we walked around and in the building that we were being watched by someone or something, while we were the only ones walking around as far as we knew.

This location is an abandoned monastery in the Liege region of Belgium. The property is located in the center of a small town along the banks of the Meuse. The buildings have been abandoned since 2008. Finding out this location isn't difficult, but the enterance is not where you expect it will be!

Initially, this monastery was a castle owned by Louis-Charles-François Lallemant, Count of Levignan. It was built in 1786. In 1892, the Sisters of St. Charles settled there. However, three years later, they already left.

After the Sisters of St. Charles left, two entrepreneurs, Braibant and Gabriel took possession of the site and made profound changes. In 1904, a large part of the current building was erected, as you can read on the cornerstone located at the old entrance of the building.

Most of the cloister you can still see today, dates from 1904. The chapel is called Carmel Reparation, named after the French Carmelites who lived there before the Benedictine monks inhabited the place in 1927. During the Second World War, the building was occupied by the Germans in 1940. However, two years later, nuns brought peace to the buildings.

When the new nuns merged with the Sisters of St. Augustine in 1969, the monastery became a rest home. It had the capacity of around 50 residents. The last inhabitant left in 2008. In 2009, the building was bought by a real estate group in Visé. Plans for reallocation into 44 high-quality housing units were never carried out.

This place is just a must visit for every urban explorer that has the chance to do so!

Note: There is no security present at the site despite it being signed so. I would not recommend going all the way because not every part of the building is safe.

Jammer!

it was already getting dark outside. Wich gave a creepy vibe being in there.
We havent been long in there. it has a lot of vandalism wich is sad to see. These once beautifull places getting teared down.
really loved the spot with the big cross is the middle. !!
over all its a lovely location if u see trhough the vandalism.
