'Lost seagulls'is a risky location where they still do target practice with airplanes etc.

The chance of being caught is very high and the fines will also be expensive so I do not recommend this location in terms of risks.
But it also is a very nice place to photograph for the brave!

Der zweite Anlauf um diesen Ort zu besuchen, beim ersten Versuch hat das Militär uns erst gar nicht aufs Gelände gelassen. Diese Flugzeuge befinden sich auf einer aktiven Militärbasis. Nachdem wir im Winter und Schneesturm 4 Stunden mit ca 70 kmh auf der Autobahn gefahren sind. Kamen wir endlich an. Wie das Schicksal so will als wir ankamen hat es aufgehört zu schneien, und der Himmel wurde klar die Sonne kam raus. Also das perfekte Wetter um diese Location zu besuchen.

Na lang zoeken op Google, YouTube en Google Maps eindelijk de locatie van Lost Seagulls gevonden.
Zo tegen de avond erheen gereden en geparkeerd bij een nabij gelegen boerderij.
Al snel bleek dat dit terrein erg gevaarlijk zou zijn. Er stonden borden van militair oefenterrein en militair domein, uitgezonderd toegelaten personen.
Vandaar de gedachte dat je er wel vaker toegelaten kunt worden, had zelfs verhalen gelezen dat er 2x per jaar een wandeltocht zou worden georganiseerd door Natuurpunt.
Tot tweemaal toe kwamen we een schrikdraad tegen en het was echt een flink stuk wandelen door zandpaden en heide.
Maar na een kleine 45 min zagen we de wrakstukken in de verte.
Wel een hele mooie locatie om foto’s te maken en nadat we er ruim voldoende gemaakt hadden weer aan de terugweg begonnen.
Halverwege werden we opgeschrikt door een militair voortuig dat op hoge snelheid in de verte reed.
Snel deed ik mijn 2 geheugenkaartjes (een zwarte waar alles op stond en een reserve blauwe) uit mijn camera in mijn broekzak en stuurde de met de telefoon gemaakte foto’s door naar een andere app.
Misschien hadden we nog kunnen bukken, want ze reden helemaal de verkeerde kant op en zagen ons pas na een paar minuten.
We werden staande gehouden door de militairen en moesten onze identiteitsbewijzen laten zien en vertellen wat we er kwamen doen.
Ze zouden het bij een waarschuwing laten en ons van het terrein af begeleiden (wij te voet en zij in de jeep).
Maar toen werd er met de leidinggevende gebeld en die belde zijn leidinggevende weer en die vond dat de politie ingeschakeld moest worden.
We moesten met onze auto achter ze aanrijden naar de basis (zeker 10 minuten rijden).
Daar was een grote uitkijktoren en met een verrekijker hadden ze ons vanaf daar op het terrein gezien en waren ze dus actief op zoek naar ons gegaan.
We werden grondig gefouilleerd (en zo werd mijn blauwe geheugenkaart gevonden) en ook de auto werd doorzocht (waar de camera werd ontdekt).
Ik moest alle foto’s wissen, maar zei dat ik dat al had gedaan.
Toen moest ik dat geheugenkaartje wat ze hadden gevonden en ik weer terug in mijn broekzak had mogen doen in de camera doen.
Ik voelde in mijn broekzak en had 50% kans, maar pakte jammer genoeg het zwarte kaartje, waarop de agent zei: zojuist had je een blauwe, dus steek ze er allebei maar in nu.
Ik wiste de foto’s een voor een in de hoop dat hij weg zou lopen, maar ik moest alles wissen of de camera werd in beslag genomen.
We hebben (vooralsnog) geen proces verbaal gekregen, maar het hele voorval gaat naar het Belgisch Parket en dan wordt bekeken hoe nu verder.
Dat zou ons verantwoorden voor de rechtbank kunnen zijn, maar ook een hoge verkeersboete (vanwege het negeren van borden als voetganger) of hopelijk het laatste: dat het niet verder ging dan deze waarschuwing omdat we “buitenlanders” zijn.
Ik heb op dit gebied zeker mijn lesje geleerd.
Dit was achteraf veel te gevaarlijk.
Er wordt nog actief geoefend daar en als er met scherp wordt geschoten vanuit een vliegtuig, dan ligt je lichaam in zoveel stukken voordat je überhaupt weet dat er gevuurd is.
En als er een oefenmissie afgebroken moet worden omdat er iemand op het terrein is, worden alle kosten op diegene verhaald.
Daarnaast is het eigenlijk niet eens urbex volgens de politie, omdat het terrein nog gebruikt wordt.
Laten we hopen dat we er uiteindelijk met slechts flinke schrik en een waarschuwing vanaf zijn gekomen.
Het goede nieuws is dat ik de foto’s op het geheugenkaartje met recovery software terug heb kunnen halen.
Maar ik zal op elke foto die ik ervan plaats erbij zeggen dat men dit niet na moet doen en dat het levensgevaarlijk is.

After a long search on Google, YouTube and Google Maps I finally found the location of Lost Seagulls.
We drove there in the evening and parked at a nearby farm.
It soon became clear that this site would be very dangerous. There were signs of military training grounds and military domain, except admitted persons.
Hence the idea that you can be admitted there more often, had even read stories that a walking tour would be organized twice a year by Natuurpunt.
Twice we encountered an electric fence and it was really a long walk through sandy paths and heath.
But after about 45 minutes we saw the wreckages in the distance.
A very nice location to take pictures and after we had made enough, we started heading back again.
Halfway through, we were startled by a military vehicle driving at high speed in the distance.
I quickly put my 2 memory cards (a black one with everything on it and a spare blue one) from my camera in my pocket and forwarded the pictures taken by phone to another app.
Maybe we could have stooped, because they drove all the way in the wrong direction and only saw us after a few minutes.
We were stopped by the military and had to show our IDs and explain what we came to do.
They would leave it at a warning and guide us off the site (we on foot and they in the jeep).
But then the supervisor called and he called his supervisor again and he thought that the police should be called in.
We had to drive with our car to the base (at least 10 minutes drive).
There was a large observation tower and with binoculars they had seen us on the site from there and so they actively searched for us.
We were searched thoroughly (and so my blue memory card was found) and the car was searched (where the camera was discovered).
I had to delete all photos, but said I already did.
Then I had to put the memory card that they found and I should have put it back in my pocket into the camera.
I felt in my pocket and had a 50% chance, but unfortunately took the black card, to which the officer said: you just had a blue one, so put them both in now.
I erased the photos one by one hoping he would run away, but I had to erase everything or the camera was confiscated.
We have not (yet) received an official report, but the entire incident goes to the Belgian Public Prosecutor's Office and then we look at what to do next.
That could be our justification in court, but also a high traffic fine (for ignoring signs as a pedestrian) or hopefully the last: that it did not go beyond this warning because we are “foreigners”.
I have certainly learned my lesson in this area.
This was far too dangerous afterwards.
There is still active practice there and if there is sharp shooting from an airplane, your body is in so many pieces before you even know that there was a fire.
And if an exercise mission has to be canceled because there is someone on the field, all costs will be recovered from that person.
In addition, it is actually not even urbex according to the police, because the site is still used.
Let's hope that in the end we got off with just a little shock and a warning.
The good news is that I was able to retrieve the photos on the memory card with recovery software.
But I will say in every photo I post that it is not to be imitated and that it is life-threatening.
