I visited this one back in August and it was one of the more.. risky locations I've visited so far.

The powerplant was so big it made me feel like a mouse. Every floor had metres of empty space between the floor itself and the ceiling. There were already a lot of machines gone but i saw some other amazing things like the control room.
This control room is a challenge to get to but when you gather the courage and do it, it's so worth it.

The cooling tower was also huge when we first entered and when you see it in real life, nothing compares to the pictures.
The echo is also amazing ;)

I really recommend this one even if youre not that adventurous this location can still offer you a lot of cool pics and memorieS!

Centrale monceau is an old electricity building.
Right next to the building you find the powerplant IM and an old silo.

It was build at 1921 and close at 2007.
At the year 1977 it was the biggest electricity factory in Charleroi.

Across the river you have Powerplant IM.
Greenpeace was demonstrating because the powerplant was causing 10% of the carbon dioxide from belgium.
The goverment decided that the factory has to close.

Fun fact, the powerplant IM is used in the movie "de premier".

Its an amazing location to visit and take photo's.

Powerplant IM is a must-do location :), I had already posted 2 photos of the cooling tower last year and now we went back for the photos that I actually wanted to take last year. Back Then there was no way up for the turbines and the like to be photographed. On this visit it was a bit more difficult to enter than last time but still quite easy if you can climb a bit and are flexible. Because I had been here recently I knew of course that there was absolutely nothing to see on the ground floor, so I was looking for an opportunity to get to the top anyway, because of course all the stairs had been removed. After walking around for a bit, we saw a barrier that was set against something, so don't hesitate and climb. The thought was good, but the effect turned out to be a little less easy. The crush barrier was nowhere fixed and really moved everywhere when we wanted to climb on it, not really safe but if you want pictures you have to put in some effort. When we finally got on the platform, we could start taking pictures. I soon saw that there were already quite a few hiking grids gone so that some places were no longer accessible, unfortunately, but in some places you could still get somewhere, where others might not bother to go. Advantage that it was not my 1st time here and I therefore knew perfectly where to be and how to get there. The only regret was that we couldn't get to that beautiful green control room anymore.

Visit date   March 13 2021 at 12 hr
Visit duration   2 hours

It never seizes to amaze me how this city can let all these industrial buildings go to waste. When we drove by to find a place to drop the car, we were shocked how much trash was just dumped on the side of the road here. This whole strip of the street looks like in some armageddon movie, literally like nobody feels any sort of responsibility for this area.
On the other hand you can be sure there are no cameras, as clearly this place has been wiped off anyone's map.
We approached the building from the side and saw a broken window which we used to enter. Once inside you feel like the building is even larger than it looks from the outside.
Very impressive.
A lot of stuff has been stripped here, and clearly some works have been ongoing, but it is very apparent that those were stopped long time ago.
A lot of fence barriers had been brought into the building, probably to secure the numerous gaps and holes in the floor while dismantling the machinery, and -unfortunately - the stairwells.
Even funnier, that exactly these barriers -every urbexer's best friend - are now serving as ladders, wherever needed.
We looked around for the way up to find the famous control room, and finally found the right "ladder" to guide us up.
While I took the climb, the lady stayed behind, to look around some more, safety first :).
I was just up on the next level when a pretty loud melody started to sound. I mean it was loud, like my own cellphone was blaring. And it didn't stop. We were wondering if someone came to shoo us out, but as the ringing didn't stop, I guess this was not the case. After a couple of minutes again: "la cucaracha" - by now, the girlfriend was so freaked out that she ordered me to come back down. When I had already started my descent, I looked out of one of the broken windows and saw an ice cream truck drive by on the other side of the river- mystery solved.
However, this interruption calls for a revisit.
To be continued...

The Thermal Power Plant

First urbex for me in the capital of Belgian urbex, C*
The power station is a well known spot in Belgium and yet it hides a lot of secrets.

A bit of history :
Created in 1921, so 100 years old this year, this power station was the main source of energy for the city of C*. At the beginning of its existence this power station was mainly working with coal and was later transformed to work with natural gas.
It was not until 2007, when Greenpeace caused a scandal because this plant was responsible for 10% of the Belgian carbon emissions. Due to the multiple pressures, Electrabel decided to close the plant for good.
The two weeks following the closure, multiple recycling companies come to recover multiple precious materials by paying the company supposed to keep the site of plundering that's why currently we can see machines cut with blowtorches as well as holes in several places.

The infiltration:
We begin the day by the tower of cooling, small heating compared to what waits for us in the power station but I found useless to explain it because everybody already knows the spot.
To go from the cooling tower to the power plant, we have to cross a river and it's either a 20 minutes walk to find a bridge or to cross an old bridge. We opt for the old bridge but when we arrive at the foot of it we see that the stairs have been cut so it is impossible. However, impossible is nothing so by the force of the arms we climb the metallic structure to arrive on the other side of the bank.
Once this small session of climbing we arrive in front of this enormous building where we feel tiny. Our new objective is to find an entrance but all the obvious entrances are blocked by enormous blocks of concrete.
Finally we will manage to enter by an access created by other explorers in a wall.

The power station in itself :
Once inside we arrive on a big room, probably an old engine room but it is not my goal here. My goal in this power station is above all the control room.
This power station is made up of huge empty rooms or floors with no safe way to walk and after 5 hours of exploration in these walls, no trace of the control room. So I leave happily but with the conviction that this room has been destroyed.

I would only find this room during my 3rd exploration in this place perched in the middle of the void, that is to say 3 months after the first exploration.

We saw a few other groups when we were at the powerplant & cooling tower. Sadly the main reactor building was quite inaccesible with big concrete blocks blocking the way in. There were other ways but those involved about a 15 meter drop so in the end we didnt go in. We did go in the other building.

This building had quite a few offices but mostly was just showers and changing rooms. Saw a lot of paperwork & desks with stuff inside. Also things like shoes and stuff in lockers. Truly a treasure. I feel like many people skip over that building.

The stairs to the cooling tower were completely gone. Next time we might bring some stairs to be able to climb up.

So hi :D;

This summer i went to this old abandoned powerplant next to the cooling towers, it was a real good place and was one of my first urbex visits.

When i was i there i was amazed by the size of the place and the condition of the building i just loved it.

I couln'd really wrap my mind around it that people just left it there like it was nothing it was beatifull. I didn't really went in to the buildings cause i was alone and there was a lot of wind so it didn't looked safe but when i was rooming the downstairs of the place i heard an alarm go off.
Didn't think a lot of it and thought to myself it was going to pass but it went off again and again and then i had too flee.

When i was just in my car (didn't parked to far from it) the security company just arrived and started to inspect the place. it was an experience :D.

This was still shot with my old camera and i have some other places i shot with that camera aswell. now i have a new camera and started taking some photography lessons aswell so i'm still a noob at it but i'm learning. i hope you enjoy the story and the pictures.

thank you

Power Plant IM, A dangerous adventure

After traveling for 4 hours with the train we arrived at the power plant.

We went to the cooling tower first but Sadly, the stairs have been removed from the tower so we had to climb, fortunately it was an easy climb.

The moment we were inside we felt super tiny! and it was amazing, after 15 minutes we climbed down.

The power plant

Finding an entrance wasn't hard but the big gate at the front is sealed with concrete blocks right now,

We found an entrance and climbed down

all the stairs have been removed from the first floor so we had to climb again, but it was worth it!

On the second floor are still 3 turnbines that generated electricity for the city. We took some pictures and reached the third floor were we had a great view of the turbine hall.

And then.. i saw a security van driving around the terrain, but we didn't got caught,

we were searching for the control room for about 40 minutes... but we found it,

this was the most dangerous part.

I climbed to the control room, because all the steel platform things had been removed, so i climbed.
And i almost fell down 10 meters, i tought i was holding on to the steel beams but instead i was holding my camera so i almost fell down... but yeah, i finally reached the control room and it was still amazing to see, but many things had been stripped,

It was amazing to be there but it felt like a public park,so many people there!

This was my report of Power Plant IM!

Bye👋

This power plant is a location for both new and experienced explorers. The cooling tower and water tank on the left side of the river are really easy to find and gain acces to. The cooling tower itself is such an impressive building that only this is almost already worth the trip.
On the other side of the river you can see the factory building which actually was the main part of the power plant. The bridge across the river is stripped down to make climbing difficult, but we managed to get across and inside the main factory building. The main floor was also completely stripped down to make sure nobody would get up to the higher floors. With a bit of dedication and some wall climbing we made it up to the first floor and from this floor up, again all flooring (including stairs) got stripped. With some extra climbing we reached the control room which was still in a decent condition. A few floors and up still had their flooring and stairs which made the trip to the roof a bit easier.
